Trilateral meeting between US, EU, Armenia aimed at isolating Azerbaijan — Aliyev

The Azerbaijani president warned the West against attempts to turn Armenia into an armed outpost in the South Caucasus

BAKU, April 5. /TASS/. The trilateral meeting between the US, the EU and Armenia is directed against cooperation in the South Caucasus and is aimed at isolating Azerbaijan, the country’s President Ilham Aliyev said.

"Although in recent days high-ranking US and EU officials have tried to convince us in telephone conversations held on their initiative that this meeting is not directed against Azerbaijan, we know that it is directed against Azerbaijan and cooperation in the South Caucasus. It is aimed at creating dividing lines and isolating our country," the Azerbaijan State News Agency quoted Aliyev as saying.

The Azerbaijani president warned the West against attempts to turn Armenia into an armed outpost in the South Caucasus. "Anti-Azerbaijani statements of the European Parliament, the Council of Europe, which they have been making since September 2023 until today, attempts to turn Armenia into an armed outpost in the South Caucasus will lead to very big negative consequences in the future. In this regard, we have made statements to warn our partners in the US and Europe," the Azerbaijani leader pointed out.

According to his assessment, the processes in the world, including in the South Caucasus, are currently developing in a very dangerous direction. "The plans drawn up for the South Caucasus in the future may lead to a great catastrophe," Aliyev said. In this connection, he pointed to the importance of strengthening the unity between Azerbaijan and Turkey.
