Abdel Fattah El-Sisi takes constitutional oath as President of Egypt

CAIRO, April 2. /TASS/. The President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, has taken the constitutional oath before members of the House of Representatives (parliament) and officially assumed office as the head of state for the third time.

The ceremony took place in Egypt's new administrative capital, with the event being broadcast by the president's office.

"I solemnly swear by Almighty God that I will work to preserve the republican system in Egypt, respect the constitution and other laws of the country, fully care for the interests of the people, and safeguard the sovereignty of the state and its territorial integrity," El-Sisi declared.

On December 18 last year, the Egyptian Electoral Commission announced that Abdel Fattah El-Sisi had won the presidential election held in Egypt on December 10-12, receiving nearly 90% of the vote. During the nation’s vote both inside and outside Egypt, 39,702,451 Egyptians out of approximately 67 million eligible voters cast their votes for the current president. The President of Egypt’s term of office is six years. In the recent election, El-Sisi ran for president for the third and, according to the country's current constitution, final time.
