Poland, Ukraine plan to sign security pact — PM

Denis Shmygal emphasized that Kiev is expecting "serious signals and steps" from NATO at the alliance's summit in Washington in July

MOSCOW, March 29. /TASS/. The Polish and Ukrainian authorities are planning to sign an agreement on security guarantees, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said on Poland’s Polsat TV channel.

"As of today, we have signed seven agreements on security [guarantees] with member states of the [North Atlantic] alliance. We expect to sign a similar agreement with Poland," the Ukrainian prime minister said. He emphasized that Kiev is expecting "serious signals and steps" from NATO at the alliance's summit in Washington in July.

Last July, the G7 adopted a declaration on long-term security guarantees for Ukraine on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Vilnius. A number of other nations then joined the document. The declaration envisages Kiev obtaining significant military capabilities. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov called this decision erroneous and potentially very dangerous.
