EU, NATO not gearing up for any war whatsoever — Spanish foreign minister

MADRID, March 26. /TASS/. Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares gave assurances that neither the EU nor NATO nor Madrid are preparing for any hypothetical war.

The EU was created "first and foremost to do away with war," he said in an interview with the Cadena SER radio station. "Neither the EU nor NATO nor, of course, Spain are preparing for any war whatsoever, because none of the alliances in which Spain is a member is an offensive alliance," he said.

The top Spanish diplomat also gave assurances that Madrid has no intention to send troops to Ukraine. He added further that he has no information about any other countries considering such a possibility. "On the other side, Ukraine is not asking for troops; it is asking for other things," Albares added.
