Italy's foreign minister believes peace talks impossible if Ukraine defeated

A regular two-day EU summit in Brussels kicked off on Thursday, where EU leaders planned to discuss the urgent and intense need for additional military support for Kiev

ROME, March 22. /TASS/. Italian Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani says that negotiating with Russia will be impossible should Ukraine be defeated.

"I would like the EU summit (currently concluding in Brussels - TASS) to be a summit of peace, where strategies are discussed to achieve peace in Ukraine, as well as in the Gaza Strip and the Red Sea. But to do so, sometimes we need to use force. I want to say that we need to help Ukraine in preventing Russia from winning, because Moscow has violated international law. Therefore, helping Ukraine means bringing negotiations closer. If Kiev is defeated, there will be no negotiating table for peace talks," the minister said on the RAI3 program.

A regular two-day EU summit in Brussels kicked off on Thursday. At the event, EU leaders planned to discuss the urgent and intense need for additional military support for Kiev. European Commission (EC) President Ursula von der Leyen, following the meeting, said that the EU did not decide to float defense Eurobonds for financing and reinforcing the EU’s defense industry. The final statement notes that the EU leaders did not agree on a decision to expropriate investment income earned on Russia’s frozen sovereign assets held at European financial institutions. The ministers were instructed to continue working on the proposals from the EC and EU diplomatic department.
