Caracas, Moscow strengthening bilateral relations — Venezuela's top diplomat

"Today, our countries continue to strengthen bilateral ties in the struggle for a multipolar, polycentric world," Yvan Gil Pinto emphasized

CARACAS, March 14. /TASS/. Venezuela and Russia are strengthening bilateral relations and come out in favor of a multipolar world, Foreign Minister Yvan Gil Pinto said as the two countries mark the 79th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

"On March 14, 1945, Venezuela and Russia (USSR back then - TASS) established diplomatic relations, which marked the beginning of the strategic alliance between the two countries created under [former Venezuelan President] Commander Hugo Chavez," the top diplomat wrote on messaging platform X, formerly known as Twitter. "Today, our countries continue to strengthen bilateral ties in the struggle for a multipolar, polycentric world," the Venezuelan foreign minister emphasized.

Diplomatic relations between the USSR and Venezuela were established on March 14, 1945, being severed in 1952 and restored amid the easing of international tensions in 1970. The Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Russia and Venezuela was concluded during the visit of then Russian Foreign Minister Yevgeny Primakov to Caracas in 1996.
