Swiss Foreign Ministry advocates Russia’ participation in peace process on Ukraine

According to Pierre-Alain Eltschinger, the FDFA "follows the inclusive approach, which goes beyond the framework of the Western territory alone"

GENEVA, March 14. /TASS/. Switzerland advocates an inclusive approach to the search of the ways to peace in Ukraine, consideration of different opinions and Russia’s involvement in the peace process, Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) Spokesperson Pierre-Alain Eltschinger told TASS.

"It is extremely important for Switzerland to unite different standpoints and proposal on the potential path towards a fair peace," he said, answering a question regarding Bern’s preparation of the conference on Ukraine, which it plans to organize before this summer.

"In addition to opinions of Ukraine, Russia, Europe and North America, it is particularly important to hear the Global South, which plays a significant role in the search of a path towards a ceasefire and a peace agreement, and to finally involve Russia in this process," the spokesman underscored.

According to Eltschinger, the FDFA "follows the inclusive approach, which goes beyond the framework of the Western territory alone."

"Such of the Swiss diplomatic corpus aims to initiate a constructive process that could lead to peace," he said, adding that the FDFA believes that this process must eventually ensure Russia’s involvement in the peace dynamic."

Meanwhile, Eltschinger refrained from providing a direct answer if Switzerland will invite Russia to the upcoming conference on Ukraine.
