Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan agree on another 38 km of common state border

The meeting of topographic working groups and groups on legal issues of the delegations of the two countries was held from January 10 to 15

DUSHANBE, January 15. /TASS/. Topographic working groups of the Tajik and Kyrgyz government delegations on the delimitation and demarcation of the border have mapped out another 38.35 km of disputed areas, the national news agency Khovar reported following a meeting of the groups in the Kyrgyz city of Batken.

"Topographic working groups agreed on 38.35 km of the Tajik-Kyrgyz state border," the message reads.

The meeting of topographic working groups and groups on legal issues of the delegations of the two countries was held from January 10 to 15. The topographers will continue to map out the remaining areas at the next meeting, which will be held in Tajikistan.

Earlier, Chairman of the State Committee for National Security (UKMK) of Tajikistan Saimumin Yatimov after talks with his Kyrgyz counterpart Kamchybek Tashiev said that the delegations of the two countries had reached fundamental agreements on the delimitation of disputed areas of the common state border. Tashiev said that the Kyrgyz side was satisfied with the outcome of the negotiations.

The border between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan is over 980 kilometers long. Disputes and conflicts, including armed ones, arise from time to time along some of its sections. Negotiations on delimitation have been ongoing since December 2002. In the last two years, more than 100 km of the projected 626 km have been mapped out, about 43.3 km in October 2023, and almost 50 more in December of the same year.
