Lukashenko urges not to ‘skip stages’ in development of Union State with Russia

According to Lukashenko, huge strides are possible in integration with Russia under the existing format

MINSK, February 11. /TASS/. The system of structures of the Union State of Russia and Belarus has not exhausted its resource yet and remains viable, and therefore one should not skip stages in the integration processes, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said, speaking at the Nationwide Belarusian People’s Assembly Thursday.

"This process implies full preservation of sovereignty without establishment of any new supra-national structures. The entire system of structures of the Union State has been established, and it has not exhausted its resource yet, it is viable. It cannot be discarded: the Parliamentary Assembly, the Council of Ministers, and, finally, the supreme constitutional body, the Supreme State Council. […] One must not skip stages, must not overload the situation, neither in Russia, nor, even more so, in Belarus," he said.

According to Lukashenko, huge strides are possible in integration with Russia under the existing format.

"Today we openly state our readiness for further substantial work on improvement of inter-industrial cooperation within the Union State, with consideration of mutual interest, and based on equality of both members of the union," he said.
