Putin sees no reason to interfere in US-China trade disputes

Putin described the issue as "a dispute between the world’s two biggest economies"

MOSCOW, June 13. /TASS/. Interfering in trade disputes between the United States and China would be pointless for Russia as the two nations should settle all differences on their own, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an interview with the Mir broadcaster on Thursday.

"Clearly, even from the standpoint of common sense, there is no reason for us to interfere in this negotiation process," Putin said. He reiterated the position he expressed at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). "I said that we live in a complicated world… Today, relations between Russia and China are important not only for the two countries but for the international community as well, which is no exaggeration at all," he noted.

When speaking about the so-called trade wars between the US and China, Putin said that it was "a dispute between the world’s two biggest economies."

"There are a lot of specific issues related to the two countries’ interaction," the Russian president pointed out. According to him, China is a huge factory producing goods for the entire world, including the United States, who establishes manufacturing facilities there and creates jobs. At the same time, China exports large amounts of its goods to other countries, including the US, and buys US securities to maintain a large part of its foreign currency and gold reserves.

Putin also pointed out that despite all that, Russian-Chinese relations had reached an unprecedented level. "We are indeed strategic partners in every sense. We maintain economic, humanitarian and regional cooperation, our foreign and defense ministries cooperate with each other. We significantly contribute to ensuring peace and security," the Russian president emphasized. "Not only at the regional level but globally as well because we coordinate our activities as the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council," he noted.
