Russian envoy slams US attempts to "bully Iran"

Mikhail Ulyanov said "Tehran implements all its obligations under the JCPOA"

VIENNA, April 23. /TASS/. The United States is trying to dismantle the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and bully Iran, Russian Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov said on Tuesday.

"The US tries to dismantle the JCPOA and bully Iran. It has no justification especially in light of UNSC Res2231. What kind of world we live in?" Ulyanov said in a statement posted on the Russian Permanent Mission’s Twitter page.

According to the Russian envoy, "Tehran implements all its obligations under the JCPOA." "Russia strengthens economic ties with Iran and supports the JCPOA," he added.

On Monday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that Washington would not extend any waivers exempting Iranian oil importers from US sanctions and that there would be no grace period for those economies after May 1.

Last November, the US decided to make an exception for 180 days for eight countries and territories importing hydrocarbons from Iran to prevent oil price hikes and give some time to search for alternatives. According to the Washington Post, three of them, specifically, Greece, Italy and Taiwan, have already reduced Iranian oil imports to zero. India, China, South Korea, Turkey and Japan will now have to stop purchasing oil from Tehran, otherwise the White House will slap sanctions on them. Beijing and New Delhi are currently the biggest importers of Iran’s oil.
