Sri Lanka’s authorities to deploy soldiers to Colombo following terror attacks

Eight explosions shook the cities of Colombo, Negombo and Batticaloa, in particular Catholic churches during Easter services, and hotels

MOSCOW, April 22. /TASS/. The Sri Lanka Armed Forces declared the deployment of about 1,000 servicemen to Colombo to provide public security there following terror attacks, the Sri Lankan news portal Ada Derana reported on Monday.

The country’s government will open centers for urgent response and special operations in the local police headquarters and the Defense Ministry. The Sri Lanka Air Force will also deploy its employees to guard Bandaranaike International Airport, Sri Lanka’s largest international airport that is located 32 km north of Colombo.

The renewal of curfew time from 20:00 (17:30 Moscow time) April 22 until 4:00 (1:30 Moscow time) April 23 was earlier declared.

On April 21, the heaviest in the country series of terror attacks occurred in Sri Lanka, in which 290 people were killed, including 30 foreigners. Eight explosions shook the cities of Colombo, Negombo and Batticaloa, in particular Catholic churches during Easter services and hotels.
