Zelensky maintains strong lead in Ukraine’s election

The new president is due to be sworn in by May 31

KIEV, April 22. /TASS/. Vladimir Zelensky who represents the Servant of the People party is way ahead of his rival, incumbent head of state Pyotr Poroshenko with 95.06% of ballots counted.

According to the Ukrainian Election Commission, Zelensky garnered 73.17% of the vote in the runoff, which is 12.8 mln people in the country. Poroshenko secured 24.50% of the vote or 4.3 million votes.

In accordance with the Ukrainian law, the Central Election Commission must publish the official election results no later than ten days after the election day, that is, by May 1, 2019. The new president is due to be sworn in by May 31.
