Death toll in Sri Lanka explosions soars to 160 — reports

Earlier reports stated 52 people died and 300 others were wounded

MOSCOW, April 21. /TASS/. The death toll in a series of explosions that hit Sri Lanka during Easter celebrations on Sunday has climbed to 160, a local news portal Newsfirst reported citing local police.

Earlier reports said 52 people died and 300 others were wounded.

Six simultaneous blasts targeted three luxury hotels and a church in Colombo, and also two churches in a suburb of Negombo.

No extremist group has claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Minister of Economic Reforms Harsha de Silva tweeted that there were foreigners among the casualties. According to Reuters, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe convened an emergency meeting of the Security Council in connection with the blasts.
