Russian, Turkish foreign ministers discuss Syrian constitutional committee

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu earlier on Thursday

MOSCOW, April 18. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Turkish colleague Mevlut Cavusoglu have discussed the need to launch the Syrian constitutional committee during a phone call on Thursday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"[The ministers] have discussed the preparations for the upcoming meeting in the Astana format on Syria [April 25-26 in Nur-Sultan] with special attention paid to the soonest launch of the constitutional committee with the aim of adhering to Resolution 2254 of the UN Security Council and the decisions of the Syrian National Dialogue Congress," the foreign ministry said.

The sides also discussed practical issues of bilateral cooperation, including the outcomes of the High-Level Russian-Turkish Cooperation Council session that took place on April 8 in Moscow.

The latest high-level meeting on Syria took place in Kazakhstan’s capital on November 28-29, 2018 with the participation of Russian, Iranian and Turkish foreign ministers.
