Moscow rejects media claims of taking remains of Israeli spy out of Syria

Mossad spy Eli Cohen was executed in Damascus in 1965

MOSCOW, April 18. /TASS/. Contrary to media reports, Russian officials have never removed the remains of Israeli spy Eli Cohen from Syria, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

"We strongly reject claims made by some Israeli media, suggesting that Russian representatives have allegedly taken the remains of a Mossad spy, Eli Cohen, who was executed in Damascus in 1965," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"We have no idea of motives that may be behind spreading this outright misinformation, as well as who may be behind it. We call upon our Israeli partners, including journalists, to demonstrate the most accurate, professional and honest approach while covering such sensitive issues," the statement reads.

The ministry said that organizers and perpetrators will be fully responsible for possible negative consequences that this provocative step may entail.
