KIEV, April 16. /TASS/. Ukrainian presidential contender, comedian Vladimir Zelensky, is 47 percentage points ahead of his rival, incumbent head of state Pyotr Poroshenko in the run-up to the runoff election, a recent survey conducted by the Kiev International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) revealed on Tuesday.
According to the results of the survey conducted on April 9-14, 72.2% of those polled support Zelensky, while 25.4% of the respondents said they would be ready to cast their votes for Poroshenko. On the other hand, 2.4% of those who took part the survey said they would go to the polls but would spoil their ballots.
A total of 2,004 people in 129 inhabited communities were interviewed throughout Ukraine. The margin of error does not exceed 3.3%.
The comparison with the survey conducted by the Rating Sociological Group a week ago shows growing support for Zelensky over the past few days, while the number of those who are ready to vote for Poroshenko has dropped slightly. As many as 71% of those polled said last week they would vote for Zelensky, while 29% were ready to support Poroshenko.
According to the outcome of the first round of Ukraine’s presidential election held on March 31, Zelensky garnered 30.24% of the vote, which is twice as much compared to Poroshenko who secured 15.95%. The runoff election is scheduled for April 21.
