Venezuela inks eleven strategic agreements with Russia

The agreements are in the areas of the oil industry, finance, agriculture, trade, culture, education, science and engineering

CARACAS, April 5. /TASS/. Venezuela and Russia have signed several strategic agreements in the oil and finance sectors, in trade and other fields during the work of the intergovernmental commission, Venezuelan Vice President for Planning Ricardo Menendez wrote on Twitter on Friday.

"During the functioning of the Russia-Venezuela high-level intergovernmental commission, eleven strategic agreements have been signed in such areas as the oil industry, finance, agriculture, trade, culture, education, science and engineering," the politician tweeted adding that energy, fishing and healthcare sectors had been considered as well.

A narrow-format meeting of the Russia-Venezuela high-level intergovernmental commission was chaired by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov. Earlier, Russia took a decision to hold the meeting at the level of the commission’s co-chairs as it was impossible for Industry and National Production Minister Tareck El Aissami and Oil Industry Ministry Manuel Quevedo to come to Russia.

Russian-Venezuelan cooperation

Earlier, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said that Moscow and Caracas planned to ink about 20 cooperation agreements in different fields in April.

Currently, Russia and Venezuela are implementing joint investment projects in energy, agriculture, geological exploration, pharmaceutics, information technology, nuclear medicine and defense technology, along with other sectors.

The previous session of the intergovernmental commission took place in the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi on November 24, 2017.
