Israeli PM says he plans to discuss Syria and coordination between servicemen with Putin

TEL AVIV, April 4. /TASS/. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu intends to discuss events in Syria and coordination between the servicemen of the two states at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Israeli prime minister said about it ahead of his departure to the Russian capital on Thursday.

"I am going to a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. We will discuss events in Syria, which are accumulating, the regular and special coordination between our armies (on Syria - TASS), as well as other issues that are important for the State of Israel," the Israeli prime minister said. Netanyahu declined to answer the question on whether Russia helped to return to Israel the body of the soldier that was killed 37 years ago in Sultan Yacoub during the First Lebanon War. The footage of Netanyahu’s speech before his departure to the Russian capital was released by the chancellery of the Israeli head of government released on Thursday.

It is the second meeting between the Russian and Israeli leaders since early 2019. This time Netanyahu is coming to Moscow five days ahead of the parliamentary election in Israel, which is due on April 9. The previous meeting between Putin and Netanyahu also took place in the Russian capital on February 27. After it the Russian president stated the possibility to create a working group on Syria (with participation of Russia, Israel and other states, as well as the Syrians themselves) that could deal with the normalization of the situation in the Syrian Arab Republic after the final suppression of terrorism in this country. After visiting Moscow, the Israeli leader reported on March 3 that the sides agreed to continue the coordination of actions between the Russian army and the Israel Defense Force, as well as reach the common goal - withdraw foreign armies from Syria that had been deployed there after the start of the civil war.
