Russia, North Korea are ready to develop cooperation in law enforcement sphere

Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev arrived to Pyongyang from Irkutsk by plane late on April 1

PYONGYANG, April 2. /TASS/. The development of cooperation between Russia and North Korea in the law enforcement sphere will become one of the main issues at the negotiations of the Russian Interior Ministry’s delegation in Pyongyang. Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev told TASS about it on Tuesday, commenting on the upcoming meeting with the heads of the North Korean Ministry of People’s Security.

"The goal of the visit is to develop cooperation in the spheres that were not sanctioned in correspondence with the UN Security Council resolutions and coordinate actions to implement a number of intergovernmental agreements, including agreements on the order for criminal extradition," Kolokoltsev noted.

The Russian minister noted that the negotiations in Pyongyang will also focus on issues of cooperation in the sphere of migration. Kolokoltsev noted that the Russian delegation that arrived to North Korea includes the head of the Main Directorate for Migration Issues of the Russian Interior Ministry.

"[Our task] in general is developing coordination between the Russian and North Korean ministries to provide public order in our countries, including during business visits and tourist trips," the interior minister stressed.

The Russian interior minister arrived to Pyongyang from Irkutsk by plane late on Monday. The Russian Embassy in North Korea noted that his visit is a "scheduled exchange" that exists between Russia and North Korea at the level of law enforcement authorities. In December 2018, a delegation of the North Korean Ministry of People's Security visited Moscow for negotiations and handed an invitation to visit Pyongyang to the Russian minister. The Russian minister’s visit to Pyongyang will last until April 3.
