Poroshenko losing ground with 70% of ballots counted

Vladimir Zelensky leads the race, winning 30.45% of the vote. Poroshenko comes in second with 16.19%

KIEV, April 1. /TASS/. Showman and head of the Servant of the People political party Vladimir Zelensky is increasing his lead in the first round of Ukraine’s presidential election, while incumbent President Pyotr Poroshenko is losing ground, with 70.03% of ballots counted.

Zelensky leads the race, winning 30.45% of the vote (after 60% of ballots counted he had 30.36% of the vote). Poroshenko comes in second with 16.19% (compared with 16.40% of the vote, with 60% of ballots counted). The leader of the Batkivshchyna (Fatherland) party Yulia Timoshenko garnered 13.15%.

Earlier, Ukraine’s Central Election Commission officially declared that neither candidate would be able to win the majority of the vote and the runoff election would be held on April 21.
