Observers say protest vote widespread in Ukrainian presidential election

Police have registered 2,199 reports of violations committed during the first round of the presidential election

KIEV, April 1. /TASS/. Observers from Ukraine’s Committee of Voters have detected widespread protest vote, during which ballots were spoiled, the committee’s Director General Alexei Koshel said.

"The committee’s observers have registered widespread protest vote, during which ballots were spoiled with irrelevant notes and something like that," he said.

He said the problems, identified by the organization’s observers can be divided into four major groups - irregularities in the work of local election commissions, illegal campaigning during the day of silence and on the election day, photographs of ballots and irregularities found in election registers.

Zoryan Shkiryak, an advisor to the Ukrainian interior minister, said earlier in the day the police have registered 2,199 reports of violations committed during the first round of the presidential election on Sunday and launched 39 criminal cases into them.
