Incumbent Ukrainian president leads disapproval ratings

KIEV, March 19. /TASS/. Nearly half of Ukrainian voters would not cast their ballots in favor of incumbent president Pyotr Poroshenko no matter what, the Rating sociological group said in a statement on Tuesday, citing a recent opinion poll.

"Pyotr Poroshenko has the highest disapproval rating of all presidential candidates. Nearly half of voters would not cast their ballots in his favor no matter what. Yulia Timoshenko’s disapproval rating is about 30%, she isfollowed by Yuri Boiko (19%), Oleg Lyashko (17%) and Vladimir Zelensky (13%)," the statement reads.

PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION IN UKRAINE

Meanwhile, as many as 20.8% of those surveyed said that Poroshenko would be the country’s next president. A total of 19.5% of respondents believe in Zelensky’s success, while 18.6% expect Timoshenko to win the upcoming presidential election.

Notably, the presidential candidates’ ratings haven’t changed much in the past few weeks. Comedian Vladimir Zelensky leads the race as 24.9% of those polled said they were ready to vote for him. He is followed by leader of the Batkivshchina (or Fatherland) party Yulia Timoshenko (18.8%), Poroshenko (17.4%), opposition candidate nominated by the Opposition Platform For Life party Yuri Boiko (10.2%), leader of the Civil Position Party Anatoly Gritsenko (9.4%) and leader of the Radical Party Oleg Lyashko (5.8%). Other candidates have approval ratings of less than five percent.

One in six Ukrainians haven’t decided yet which of the candidates they will support.

The poll involving 2,500 respondents over 18 years of age was conducted on March 9-15. The margin of error does not exceed two percent.

The Ukrainian presidential election is scheduled to take place on March 31.
