Russia hopes Algeria will resolve its issues in constructive manner

Earlier, Algerian leader Abdelaziz Bouteflika announced postponement of upcoming presidential elections and refused to run for another term in the wake of massive national protests

MOSCOW, March 12. /TASS/. The recent events in Algeria form part of the country’s domestic affairs, and Russia hopes that the republic will resolve its issues in a constructive way, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated on Tuesday.

"We see the events in Algeria as an internal affair of a friendly country of Russia," the diplomat said.

"At the same time, we hope that the problems that arise will continue to be resolved in a constructive and responsible manner via national dialogue with a clear aim to establish stability and favorable conditions for Algeria’s further steady development on the path towards political and social-economic change in the interest of all Algerian people," Zakharova stated.

Earlier, Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika announced postponement of upcoming presidential elections and refused to run for another term in the wake of massive protests in the country. The date of new elections will be announced after a national conference and the formation of a new government, the president added.
