Venezuela ready to purchase food, medicine from Russia

Russian senator Konstantin Kosachev said that the products would not form part of humanitarian aid

MOSCOW, March 11. /TASS/. Venezuela is ready to purchase food, agricultural produce and medicine from the Russian Federation, having sent corresponding requests to Russian ministries, Chairman of the Russian Federation Council's (upper house of parliament) Foreign Affairs Committee Konstantin Kosachev informed on Monday on the outcomes of the meeting with Venezuelan Ambassador in Russia Carlos Rafael Faria Tortosa. He added that the Federation Council would establish parliamentary control over the processing of the requests.

"Mainly, we are talking about supplying food, agricultural commodities to produce food, and medicine. These are the three main categories of goods that Venezuela is currently interested in, and it is ready to sign commercial contracts over these goods," Kosachev said.

The senator stressed that the products would not form part of humanitarian aid.

"The corresponding requests by the Venezuelan side have been sent to the relevant ministries and institutions: the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Agriculture, as well as several other ministries. We will establish parliamentary control over how our federal executive bodies react to such requests," the senator said.
