Around 200 people detained in Algeria's protests — media

Earlier reports said that over 1 million people took part in the anti-government demonstration in Algeria's capital on Friday

MOSCOW, March 8. /TASS/. /TASS/. At least 195 people were detained at protests in Algeria, TSA portal reported on Friday citing the police.

TSA said that 112 policemen were injured at protests.

Earlier reports said that over 1 million people took part in the anti-government demonstration in Algeria's capital on Friday. They demanded that President Abdelaziz Bouteflika does not run for the fifth term in the elections scheduled for April. Protesters said that Bouteflika, aged 82 and seriously ill, is not capable of governing the country.

Bouteflika has already served as Algeria's president for four consecutive terms, since 1999. His health deteriorated in 2013 when he suffered a stroke. On Saturday Al Mayadeen TV channel reported that Bouteflika was hospitalized in Switzerland and is in critical condition.
