Militants shell settlements in three Syrian regions in past day

Militants opened fire at settlements in the Syrian provinces of Latakia, Hama and Aleppo

MOSCOW, March 8. /TASS/. Militants have shelled settlements in the Syrian regions of Latakia, Hama and Aleppo in the past 24 hours, Major General Viktor Kupchikhin, chief of the Russian Center for reconciliation of the conflicting sides in Syria, told reporters on Friday.

"Over the past 24 hours, militants shelled the inhabited localities of Sanjeka, Roiset-Roshu, Qastal al-Board and Hamrad in the Latakia province; Anu Omar in the Hama province; and Abtin and Al-Salhina in the Aleppo province," Kupchikhin said.

The general added that in the past 24 hours the US has continued to block entrances and exits from the Rukban camp, denying entry to evacuation buses.

The Rukban camp is located in the Al-Tanf security zone, home to a US military base. Militants from armed opposition groups have blocked access to the security zone. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the Rukban camp is currently hosting about 40,000 people, mostly women and children.

The Russian reconciliation center continues to fulfill the tasks assigned to them after the completion of the military campaign in Syria. They regularly travel around the country's liberated areas to assess the humanitarian situation. The main efforts of the Russian military are now focused on assisting refugees who are returning to their homes and evacuating civilians from the war-torn country’s de-escalation zones.
