Convoys of buses sent to evacuate refugees from Syria’s Rukban camp

Head of the Russian reconciliation center Sergei Solomatin said the US has not yet responded to a request to allow the passage of the humanitarian convoy

MOSCOW, March 1. /TASS/. Convoys of buses have been sent to the Djleb checkpoint in Syria to evacuate refugees from the Rukban refugee camp, head of the Russian Center for reconciliation of the conflicting sides in Syria Sergei Solomatin told reporters on Friday.

"In order to prevent a humanitarian crisis at the Rukban refugee camp, convoys of buses have been formed and sent to the Djleb checkpoint for voluntary and unhampered return of refugees from the Rukban camp from the Al Tanf area to permanent residence places in the settlements of Al Khalidiyah, Al-Amarah, Palmyra, Mhin, Al Karyatein, and the outskirts of Damascus, Homs and Aleppo," Solomatin said.

The decision on sending the convoys was made at Friday’s meeting of the coordination headquarters of Russia and Syria on returning refugees to Syria.

However, the United States has not yet responded to a request to allow the passage of the humanitarian convoy and provide security guarantees in the 55-km zone around the US base Al Tanf, he noted.

Ceasefire violations by militants have been recorded in the Idlib de-escalation zone. Solomatin noted that over the past 24 hours the Russian reconciliation center has carried out a humanitarian mission handing out 500 food packages to the citizens of Aramo in the Latakia province.
