MOSCOW, February 28. /TASS/. Poland’s crusade to reduce World War II memorials to rubble and re-write history is deeply immoral and must be stopped, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at Thursday’s briefing.
She stated that World War II memorial heritage sites in Poland are still being targeted and intentionally desecrated. "Another case of Soviet tombs being vandalized was reported in the Polish city of Nowy Sacz," the diplomat noted. "This time, vandals attacked a Red Army grave in a city cemetery. The hammer and sickle signs were stolen from the obelisk, and symbols of the so-called Fighting Poland were painted in their place, along with ‘down with the commune’ scrawled on it.
In the city of Kielce, local lawmakers ordered the removal of 29 Red Army soldiers from a list of honorary citizens, noted the diplomat. "The monument to those who saved Poland from the Nazi invaders was toppled in the town of Slawno. Moreover, a legendary T-34 tank was removed from the base. According to local historians, the tank was manned by a Polish crew fighting for the 3rd Guards Tank Corps under General Panfilov’s command," she added.

"If rescuing a whole nation from the danger of total destruction does not deserve to be immortalized, then any discussion on some historic truth is just useless. The authors of Poland’s state policy on commemorative affairs should remember that each new insult of this kind is a direct offense to the memory of World War II heroes and their descendants and is, of course, historical revisionism."
