About 3,500 journalists request accreditation for Trump-Kim summit in Hanoi

The greatest number of applications was received from US, Korean and Japanese mass media outlets

HANOI, February 21. /TASS/. About 3,500 Vietnamese and foreign journalists have requested accreditation at the second North Korean-US summit in Hanoi, a local source involved in preparations for the forthcoming meeting of US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has told TASS.

Accreditation requests were accepted on February 16-21. The greatest number of applications was received from US, Korean and Japanese mass media outlets, the source said.

The international press-center of the second North Korean-US summit due on February 27-28 will open at the Soviet-Vietnamese Friendship Palace in the morning of Febraury 26 and close on March 1. The summit to be held at a yet-to-be disclosed venue will be telecast live.

The Soviet-Vietnamese Friendship Palace - a gift from the Soviet trade unions - began to be built in November 1978 to have been completed in September 1985. The main conference hall seats 1111. The building has twenty other smaller conference rooms, exhibition platforms and offices.

Over the past three and a half decades the Soviet-Vietnamese Friendship Palace hosted dozens of major events, including conferences, summits, seminars, exhibitions and music concerts. Graduates of Soviet and Russian colleges and universities gathered there to meet with Russian presidents - Vladimir Putin in 2001 and Dmitry Medvedev in 2010.
