Putin sees no signs of US troop pullout from Syria for now but tends to believe Trump

"Trump has been working actively enough on coping with his election pledges, which seldom happens in the United States’ political life in practice," the Russian leader recalled

SOCHI, February 14. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that Moscow sees no considerable changes in Syria connected with US plans for pulling its forces out of that country.

"President Donald Trump has been working actively enough on coping with his election pledges, which seldom happens in the United States’ political life in practice," Putin said after a Russia-Iran-Turkey summit on Thursday. "One of his pledges was to withdraw US troops from Syria. But the political situation sometimes does not allow for meeting the targets he [Trump] sets to himself," Putin said. "We do not know what will happen next. At this point we can stay that no big changes have taken place in that territory."

Moscow assumes that the US pullout will eventually follow.

"If so, the sole correct solution of the problem of ensuring security will be putting these territories’ under the control of the Syrian armed forces," Putin said.
