Lavrov to hold talks with Oman’s top diplomat on February 18

Moscow sought substantive dialogue with Muscat on the entire range of regional issues, the Foreign Ministry says

MOSCOW, February 14. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will hold talks with Oman’s top diplomat Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah on February 18, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday.

"On February 18, talks will take place between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Oman’s top diplomat Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, who will make a working visit to Moscow. The two top diplomats will thoroughly discuss important aspects of activities aimed at boosting friendly ties between Russia and Oman," Zakharova said.

According to her, Moscow sought substantive dialogue with Muscat on the entire range of regional issues. "We proceed from the fact that progress in our multifaceted ties is in the long-term interests of Moscow and Muscat and contributes to ensuring peace in the Persian Gulf region and the Middle East in general," she noted. Zakharova added that the parties would also compare their positions on the situation in the Middle East and North Africa, focusing on the need to resolve regional conflicts through political and diplomatic means and dialogue based on mutual respect, taking the interests of all involved parties into consideration.

"There will be specific discussions of the Palestine-Israel issue, the situations in Syria, Yemen and the Persian Gulf region," the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman concluded.
