Russia to closely follow second summit of US, North Korea, says senator

Еhe second US-North Korean summit is expected to be held in Vietnam's Hanoi on February 27-28

MOSCOW, February 11. /TASS/. Russia will closely follow a second summit of North Korea and the US, scheduled for the end of February, Chairman of the Russian Federation Council’s (upper house of parliament) Foreign Affairs Committee Konstantin Kosachev said as he met with North Korean Ambassador in Moscow Kim Hyung Jun on Monday.

"We are confident that political trajectory is the only solution to any problems of the Korean peninsula. And that the language of blackmail and military threats is definitely a blind alley," Kosachev said.

He said Moscow was also keeping a close eye on inter-Korean dialogue. "We are ready to continue making every effort to assist to it if this will be needed," the senator said.

On February 9, US President Donald Trump said that the second US-North Korean summit will be held in Vietnam's Hanoi on February 27-28.

The first summit between Trump and Kim was held on 12 June 2018 in Singapore. The heads of state adopted a joint statement, in which Pyongyang confirmed its principled readiness to carry out full denuclearization, while the US agreed to provide security guarantees to North Korea.
