Militants shell Syria's Aleppo province — Russian reconciliation center

Head of the Russian reconciliation center Sergei Solomatin said militants operating in the Idlib de-escalation zone opened fire at the Tell-Alush settlement in the Aleppo province

MOSCOW, February 9. /TASS/. Militants operating in the Idlib de-escalation zone have opened fire at a settlement in the Syrian region of Aleppo in the past 24 hours, Lieutenant General Sergei Solomatin, head of the Russian Center for reconciliation of the conflicting sides, told reporters on Saturday.

"Despite a cessation of hostilities agreement, militants from illegal armed groups in the Idlib de-escalation zone have shelled Tell-Alush in the Aleppo province in the past 24 hours," he said.

According to Solomatin, local residents continue protests in Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor regions and demand that the US-led coalition troops be pulled out from Syria.

"For example, rallies have been reported in Abu-Hammad and Havijet-Shian in the Raqqa province over the past 24 hours," he added.

The Russian reconciliation center continues to fulfill assigned tasks after the completion of the military campaign in Syria. The center’s officers regularly travel around the country's liberated areas to assess the humanitarian situation. The main efforts of the Russian military are now focused on assistance to the refugees returning to their homes and evacuation of civilians from de-escalation zones.
