US sends armored vehicles to Syria despite planned troop pullout — agency

Meanwhile, talks on creating a security zone in northern Syria are planned to be held in Washington

ANKARA, February 5. /TASS/. The United States has sent about 150 trucks with armored vehicles and equipment to Syria despite plans to withdraw troops from the country, Turkey’s Anadolu news agency reported on Tuesday.

According to the agency, the trucks carried Humvees (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle) and power generators. The vehicles will be deployed to US logistics centers in the Kharab Ishq and Sirrin areas, which are used not only by the US military but also by the US-backed Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG).

Meanwhile, talks on creating a security zone in northern Syria are planned to be held in Washington on Tuesday.

On January 24, CNN reported that "the US military has moved additional troops into Syria in recent days to help provide protection to other US service members as they withdraw under President Donald Trump's directive to pullout all US troops from the country."

On December 19, Trump ordered a full withdrawal of US troops from Syria, claiming that the Islamic State terror group (outlawed in Russia) had been defeated. According to US officials, the troop pullout will take 60 to 100 days.
