Venezuela hails peaceful mediatory initiatives - vice president

Discussion of all the initiatives on possible ways out of Venezuela’s problems will begin in Montevideo on February 7

CARACAS, February 3. /TASS/. Venezuela hails mediatory initiatives geared at peaceful settlement of the acute political crisis in the country, Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez said on Sunday.

"Initiatives have already been advanced by Uruguay and Mexico, which have called for settling the conflict in Venezuela through a dialogue," she said at a briefing for Russian journalists. "Venezuela hails these initiatives."

"Discussion of all the initiatives on possible ways out of Venezuela’s problems will begin in Montevideo on February 7," she said. "This dialogue will begin in Montevideo. If any other countries want to join this dialogue or offer their initiatives, we only welcome such a possibility."

Rodriguez stressed that her country’s government stands for settling the political crisis through a dialogue, "by peaceful means and within the constitutional framework."

The European Union and Uruguay will hold the first meeting of the contact group on Venezuelan settlement in Montevideo on February 7. The contact group includes representatives from the EU and its eight member nations, namely Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, the United Kingdom, France and Sweden, and from four Latin American countries: Bolivia, Costa Rica, Uruguay and Ecuador.
