Ukrainian forces shell LPR territory 29 times in past week

LPR's acting defense minister Mikhail Filiponenko said Ukrainian forces fired over 500 mines and shells at the LPR territory in the past week

LUGANSK, February 1. /TASS/. As many as 29 ceasefire violations by Ukrainian troops were reported in the self-proclaimed Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) over the past week, LPR’s acting defense minister, Mikhail Filiponenko, said on Friday.

"Over the past week, twenty-nine ceasefire violations by Ukrainian troops were reported. More than 500 mines and shells were fired at the republic’s territory," LuganskInformCenter quoted him as saying.

According to Filiponenko, the settlements of Lozovoye, Veselogorovka, Kalinovo, Kalinovo-Borshchevatoye, Pervomaisk, Molodezhnoye, Zolotoye-5, Donetsky, Zhelobok, Frunze, Sokolniki, Prishib, Krutaya Gora, Rayevka and the area around the Prince Igor monument near Stanitsa Luganskaya came under fire. One LPR serviceman was killed.

Since the outbreak of the conflict in Donbass, the parties have agreed on more than 20 ceasefires. The longest one of them was reported in 2016 when the ceasefire stayed in place for six weeks in a row. However, all the efforts to establish lasting ceasefire have been failing so far.

Yet another ceasefire was agreed by the parties in late December 2018 ahead of the New Year and Christmas holidays and came into force on December 29, 2018.
