US attempts to topple Maduro violate Helsinki accords, says Russia’s OSCE mission

The mission condemned attempts by USA "to topple the legitimate government of Venezuela"

TASS. January 24. Washington’s attempts to overthrow Venezuela’s legitimate government are a flagrant violation of the principles enshrined in the 1975 Helsinki Final Act, the Russian Permanent Mission to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) said in a statement on Thursday.

"We condemn attempts by USA to topple the legitimate government of Venezuela. That's blunt violation of Helsinki Final Act's principle of non-interference into internal affairs," the mission tweeted.

On January 23, Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido declared himself acting president during an opposition rally in Caracas. A number of countries, including the US, Argentina, Brazil, Canada and Chile, have already recognized Guaido as Venezuela's interim president.

Venezuela's incumbent President Nicolas Maduro described the developments as an attempted coup organized by Washington and said he was breaking diplomatic ties with the US. Russia, Iran, Cuba, Nicaragua and Turkey expressed their support for Maduro, while China called for resolving all disagreements peacefully and spoke out against outside interference.
