Germany to hold int’l conference on control over new types of weapons

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas invited Sergey LAvrov to join the conference

MOSCOW, January 18. /TASS/. Germany plans to organize an international conference on control over new types of weapons in Berlin in the coming spring, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said on Friday after talks with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov.

"The problem of international architecture of arms control is an issue of the international agenda that has not been discussed very often. So, I invite you to a conference in Berlin in the spring to discuss issues of regulating new types of weapons," he said.

"I hope for wide participation so that we can discuss all the autonomous weapons systems, killer robots that have been developed in the recent years and that are to be placed under proper international control and be regulated by international rules," he said. "I hope we will make certain progress at this level and will incorporate it into the international arms control architecture.".
