Germany needs to ensure good relations with Russia, top diplomat says

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas made a stetment ahead of talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov

MOSCOW, January 18. /TASS/. The German people have a strong need to ensure good relations with Russia, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said ahead of talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.

"In the past months, we held numerous talks and launched various joint initiatives," he noted. "We are on the right track because Germany - the people and civil society - have a strong need to ensure good relations between our countries. We will work together to strengthen the foundations of bilateral relations," the German top diplomat noted.

"There are a number of global issues that we will discuss and on which we will work together in the United Nations Security Council," Maas said, adding that constructive dialogue continued on many of those issues.
