Militants open fire at research center in Syria's Aleppo — reconciliation center

Head of the Russian reconciliation center Sergei Solomatin said the research center in Aleppo was shelled by militants from illegal armed groups operating in the Idlib de-escalation zone

MOSCOW, January 16. /TASS/. Militants operating in Syria’s Idlib de-escalation zone have shelled the research center in Aleppo in the past 24 hours, Lieutenant General Sergei Solomatin, head of the Russian Center for reconciliation of the conflicting sides in Syria, told reporters on Wednesday.

"In spite of the ceasefire agreement, one incident of shelling by militants from illegal armed groups was registered in the Idlib de-escalation zone against the area of the research center in the city of Aleppo," Solomatin said.

He also reported that on January 15, Russian military police officers patrolled the rear boundary of a five-kilometer security zone around Manbij along two routes — to and from the village of al-Ajami.

Solomatin added that over the past 24 hours the reconciliation center carried out a humanitarian mission in the Daraa province, distributing 500 food sets. "Since the beginning of the settlement process, the Russian center for reconciliation of the conflicting sides has carried out a total of 2,043 humanitarian operations. A total weight of humanitarian cargoes amounted to 3,221.2 tonnes," he noted.

The Russian reconciliation center continues to fulfill assigned tasks after the completion of the military campaign in Syria. The center’s officers regularly travel around the country's liberated areas to assess the humanitarian situation. The main efforts of the Russian military are now focused on assistance to the refugees returning to their homes and evacuation of civilians from de-escalation zones.
