Trump threatens to ‘devastate’ Turkey if it attacks Kurds

The Pentagon informed earlier that the US military is transitioning to the next phase of their campaign against the IS

WASHINGTON, January 14. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump has threatened to "devastate" Turkey if Ankara attempts to attack the Syrian Kurds after the US troops pull out from Syria.

"Will devastate Turkey economically if they hit Kurds," he wrote. "Likewise, do not want the Kurds to provoke Turkey," the US leader added. Trump also noted that a "20-mile safe zone" must be established.

On December 19, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders announced that the US started to pull out its troops from Syria. US President Donald Trump stated on Twitter that the United States have defeated the IS forces in Syria, which is the only reason for the US troops being there. American officials inform that the US aims to pull out all troops from the territory of Syria within the next 60-100 days.

The Pentagon informed earlier that the US military is transitioning to the next phase of their campaign against the IS (the Islamic State terrorist group, outlawed in Russia).

Earlier last week, US National Security Advisor John Bolton stated during his trip to Israel that the US troop pullout must occur taking into account the safety of US allies in the fight against the IS and other terrorist groups in Syria, including the Kurds.

Ankara has responded critically to Bolton’s statement, with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan calling the US actions aimed at aiding the Kurds in Syria a serious mistake. Erdogan added that Turkey might start a military operation against the Kurdish formations in Syria at any moment, informing Trump of its plans in advance.
