Peace treaty should rest on Tokyo’s recognition of WWII results, Moscow says

MOSCOW, January 9. /TASS/. The peace treaty should be based on recognition by Japan of results of World War Two, including Russia’s sovereignty of the Southern Kurile Islands, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday, following Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov’s meeting with Japan’s Ambassador to Moscow Toyohisa Kozuki.

"The peace treaty issue might be resolved in case a qualitatively new atmosphere in the Russian-Japanese relations is created. It should be supported by the two nations and rest on Tokyo’s unconditional recognition of results of World War Two in full, including the Russian Federation’s sovereignty of the Southern Kurile Islands," the ministry said.
