Moldova extradites Islamic State recruiter to Russia

According to the FSB, Nadir Davudov took an active part in fighting against the Syrian government forces, while staying there

MOSCOW, December 29. /TASS/. Moldova has extradited a Russian man who is a suspect recruiter for the Islamic State terrorist group (banned in Russia), the Russian Security Service (FSB) told TASS on Saturday.

"The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation along with Russia’s Prosecutor General’s Office, the National Central Bureau of Interpol at Russia’s Interior Ministry and Russia’s Federal Penitentiary Service have organized the extradition of a wanted Russian citizen, Nadir Minbalayevich Davudov, born in 1990, from the Republic of Moldova," the FSB said.

According to FSB, being a follower of radical Islam, "Davudov came to Syria through third countries in April 2013, and there he joined the international terrorist organization Islamic State outlawed in the Russian Federation."

"While staying in Syria, N. Davudov took an active part in fighting against the government forces. Apart from that, via the Internet he was recruiting residents of the [Russian] Kabardino-Balkaria Republic for terrorism-related activities," they said.

Davudov tried to legalize in Europe. In November 2017, he arrived in Chisinau with a forged passport of a Ukrainian national. At Russia’s request, he was detained and taken into custody in the Moldovan capital before extradition. Due to the Russian law enforcement agencies’ coordinated efforts to gather evidence of the suspect’s criminal activities, the Moldovan authorities met the extradition request. On December 29, he was extradited to Russia.

"Investigation is underway to document his involvement in the committed crimes," the FSB said.
