Activists of Saakashvili’s party place tents near Georgian parliament’s building

TBILISI, December 16. /TASS/. Activists of Georgia’s former ruling party United National Movement (UNM) of ex-President Mikhail Saakashvili have placed two tents in front of the parliament building in Tbilisi, the Rustavi-2 television channel reported on Sunday.

Levan Khabeishvili, one of the protest’s organizers, promised that more tents would be placed near the parliament building "to continue protests." He called on the party’s supporters to join the protest rally currently attended by about 100-150 activists.

Meanwhile, ex-President Mikhail Saakashvili, who is currently staying in the Netherlands, in a video address called on his supporters in Georgia to gather near the parliament building.

The runoff presidential elections were held in Georgia on November 28, with Salone Zurabishvili, an independent candidate supported by the ruling party Georgian Dream, and Grigor Vashadze, a UNM candidate, vying for the presidential office. According to the official results announced by the Central Election Commission, Zurabishvili won 59.52% of the vote, while Vashadze managed to score 40.48% Earlier on Sunday, Zurabishvili was sworn into office.

The UNM leaders and Saakashvili said they don’t recognize the results of the runoff polls.
