Russian Foreign Ministry voices concern over Israel’s special operation in Ramallah

MOSCOW, December 11. /TASS/. Russia is worried over the operation the Israeli military is conducting in Palestine’s Ramallah and it urges Israel to bear in mind the risks for civilians and the security of foreign missions there, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a commentary on Wednesday.

On December 10, Israeli troops raided the office of the Palestine news agency WAFA.

"The operation lasted for several hours. Israeli soldiers and military vehicles blocked all roads to the office. Ramallah’s residents expressed protest and threw stones at the Israeli soldiers, who in retaliation used tear gas and stun grenades and fired rubber and lethal bullets," the commentary runs.

The operation took place next to the residence of the president of the State of Palestine and near Russia’s representative office at the Palestinian National Authority.

"As a result of the operation by Israeli forces tear gas was used in the immediate vicinity of the Russian office," the Russian Foreign Ministry said. "The necessary measures were taken to ensure the health of Russian staff and their families should not be in danger."

"The incident caused our great concern. Palestinian-Israeli relations remain unsettled and the risk of their further aggravation looks worrisome," the commentary said. "The more so, since operations by the Israeli military upset Ramallah civilians’ normal life and work."

Russia expects that Israel in making decisions to conduct special operations will "gauge the negative effects for civilians, including the likely risks to the health and security of foreign missions’ staffers," the Foreign Ministry said.
