Acting PM proud of Armenia’s ‘mighty people’

Pashinyan’s bloc "My Step" has received 70.43% of the vote during the Armenian parliamentary elections,

YEREVAN, December 10. /TASS/. Armenia’s Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that he is proud of the "mighty people" of the republic after the announcement of the final results of the parliamentary elections that took place on December 9.

"Mighty, mighty, mighty people," he wrote on Monday on Facebook. "I love you all, I am proud of you and I bow before you."

Pashinyan’s bloc "My Step" has received 70.43% of the vote during the Armenian parliamentary elections, the Central Election Commission stated after counting ballots from all 2,010 polling stations. The Prosperous Armenia and the Armenian Renaissance parties have also entered the parliament, scoring 8.27% and 6.37% of the vote respectively.

Former Armenian leading party, the Republican Party of Armenia, failed to surpass the 5% mark, scoring just 4.7% of the vote. "If there had been transparent elections in Armenia in the last 18 years, then the Republican Party of Armenia would barely get the passing percent. We have said it repeatedly, and now we see the results with our own eyes," the acting PM stated earlier.

A party needs to score at least five percent of the vote, while a bloc is required to have at least seven percent to win seats in the national legislature.

Journalists from 70 local and 32 foreign media outlets, including from Russia, covered the election. Observers from eight international and 22 local organizations monitored the vote. Among them were the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, which has more than 250 observers, and another 80 of its members are part of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Election Observer Mission.
