Russian, US envoys to discuss ways to launch dialogue between Afghan government, Taliban

The meeting is scheduled for December 7

MOSCOW, December 3. /TASS/. Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov and Special Presidential Envoy for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov will meet on December 7 with US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad to discuss the launch of a dialogue between the Afghan government and the Taliban, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a report on Monday.

"On the same day, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov will receive the US diplomat," the ministry said.

"The focal point of the upcoming consultations is discussion of the possibilities of Russian-American cooperation on the Afghan trajectory, first of all in the issues of assisting in the launch of a direct dialogue on peace between the warring parties in Afghanistan," the ministry added.
