Russia's PM offers Hanoi assistance due to heavy rains in southern Vietnam

Opening talks with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Medvedev offered his condolences following the disaster

HANOI, November 19. /TASS/. Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has offered assistance to Vietnam in the wake of torrential rains in the south of that country.

On Sunday, local media reported that at least 12 people had been killed in Vietnam’s Nha Trang because of a tropical storm caused by Typhoon Toraji. The city was badly damaged by torrential rains, its residents had to be evacuated.

Opening talks with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Medvedev offered his condolences on the disaster. "If we can help you, we are at your disposal," he said.

For his part, the Vietnamese premier pointed to the special relationship between Vietnam and Russia. "We will do our utmost to create favorable conditions to boost cooperation," he said, expressing confidence that Medvedev’s visit would be a success.

"We are always happy to visit your country, and our meetings are marked by special relations between our two countries based on strategic partnership," the Russian prime minister said.
