MOSCOW, November 12. /TASS/. Problems of Libyan settlement were in focus of a meeting between Russian president’s special envoy for the Middle East and African countries and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and Deputy Prime Minister of Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA) Ahmed Maiteeq and Foreign Minister Mohammed Sayala, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Monday.
"The sides discussed key topics on the Libyan agenda that will be considered at the international forum in Palermo, including prospects for establishing an inclusive political process in Libya and measures to stabilize the situation in that country’s economy and the security sphere, to be taken with the United Nations mediation," the ministry said.
Apart from that, Bogdanov held consultations with speaker of the Libyan parliament, Aguila Saleh Issa, to "exchange views on the ways of reaching political stability in Libya by means of building a viable system of state power relying on maximally broad support of the Libyan people," the ministry noted.
The international high-level conference on Libya kicked off in Italy’s Palermo on Monday. The forum was initiated by the Italian government and Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte personally. It will be attended by high-level delegations from North African countries of the Mediterranean, as well as from Russia, the United States and Libya.
The forum is geared to give a fresh impetus to the process of political settlement in Libya under the auspices of the United Nations, to demonstrate the readiness of the international community to offer consolidated support to all responsible forces in Libya in the implementation of this task.
